Free Tax Preparation Assistance Still Available This Saturday At Two Locations in Sterling and Leesburg

April 10, 2014

The last sessions for free tax help is Saturday April 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. in Sterling and in Leesburg from 10 a.m. to noon.

With the tax deadline of April 15 quickly approaching, the Loudoun County Department of Family Services, Area Agency on Aging and AARP remind residents with low and moderate incomes that there is still time to receive free help in preparing 2013 federal and state tax returns.

Free income tax preparation services are available until April 15. Trained and certified IRS volunteers are ready to help file and process both federal and state returns. When filing a joint return, both spouses must be present. Taxpayers must bring a photo ID, Social Security card for all family members and/or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs), along with any documents such as W-2s, 1099s, and last year's income tax return, if available.

AARP operated two sites in the Sterling area: The Cascades Library tax assistance site at 21030 Whitfield Place is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

No appointments are necessary at this site. The site at Falcon's Landing is open Monday, Thursday and Saturday April 12 from 1 to 5 p.m. Call 703-404-5216 to schedule an appointment. The AARP sites do not have an income limit.

VITA is a cooperative venture between Family Services, Area Agency on Aging, AARP and the Northern Virginia CASH (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) campaign. Trained volunteers are available to determine if a family is eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit or other tax credits that could reduce the amount of tax owed and may result in a tax refund.

In addition to the sites mentioned above, there are many other VITA sites across Northern Virginia. Find out more by visiting www.nvacash.org or www.irs.gov . For more information, contact Karen Velez at 703-771-5718 or by email.
