Day 84 of Sterling Park and Ride Lot Taken Hostage

84 days of commuters in Sterling not having their fully built park and ride
is 84 days too long, says Sterling Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio

I introduced a bill to open a Sterling Park and Ride on April 17, 84 days ago, and this
finished ready to go Sterling Park and Ride has been held "in committee" due to a hold
by Chairman York"

"The TLUC (Transportation and Land Use Committee) meets Friday July 12 at 9 a.m. and will
hear "all transportation issues" have been addressed and I fear that Chairman York will
again stall the park and ride. I have pointed out that I respect his, Mr. York, living nearby
but that there are minor "transportation issues" from staff or VDOT and they should not
be enough to block or prevent a Sterling Park and Ride at that location."

Loudoun County staff investigated the transportation issues that Chairman York raised and said they were not significant enough to stop the opening of the park and ride lot and Chairman York asked again that staff investigate again.

Staff is returning July 12 and has stated in their new report that staff recommends taht this project not be held up after investigating his issues of concern.

To dramatize this delay in service to Sterling and Loudoun commuters, Supervisor Delgaudio will host a Free the Hostage Park And Ride picnic to "show the lot that can be used for commuters and should not be held up any further," said Delgaudio.

Delgaudio says "I will lay out a blanket, open my cooler, plant an American Flag, share a sandwich with any guest and hope for the opening of the fully built ready to go Sterling Park and Ride Lot to be freed from being held hostage from Chairman Scott York who is holding hostage, with his objection, this "ready" facility."

Delgaudio Protested "Closed" Finished Interchange in 2006

Not since then Governor Tim Kaine -- and Scott York --- in 2006 stalled the opening of the 100 per cent completed Sterling Blvd. interchange has there been a more blatant example of wrongful policy.

See this link for the 2006 report posted on my website.

OPEN THE NEW STERLING INTERCHANGE!

When confronted by WTOP's long time senior reporter Hank Silverberg, the Governor ordered the opening of the interchange "In the next 15 minutes" and reversed bad policy.

Delgaudio says "I ask for the Board to stand for Sterling -- that its residents get a service at very little cost to the county -- to allow the fully built Park and Ride to open."
