Board Votes 9 to O to Approve Stronger Penalities

The board of supervisors voted to pass stronger penalties for residents that use their houses for heavy commercial use. At my request the county attorney revealed that there are eight residents that continue to use their homes for heavy commercial use in spite of $5,000 in civil penalties.

In 2008 I asked for and received authority for Loudoun to pass stronger penalities. Last year 400 Sterling residents signed petitions asking for stronger penalities.

At the public hearing in January the BOS passed stronger penalities.

Leeburg Today reports "To address concerns about habitual zoning violators, the Board of Supervisors ... voted to strengthen the penalties and to allow for administrative warrants to enforce the residential overcrowding ordinance.

(and) The board unanimously adopted a change to the county ordinance that allows for criminal prosecution after civil penalties reach $5,000. The change puts into place the enabling authority granted by the General Assembly in 2008, and makes the violations a criminal misdemeanor.

Upcoming Board of Supervisors Budget Hearing
Wednesday February 22 2012
3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Consider coming to note your support for reductions in the budget or simply write the board at [email protected]

Board Fails To Close Western Loudoun Substation Boondoggle

It may be just a nightmare. Supervisor Janet Clarke proposed the unnecessary Western station be eliminated. I promised you and others that I would support reductions and this was a big reduction. $8 million dollars in construction and $2 million dollars in operating costs ($10 million in savings).

Serious budget critics believed a station of any kind would be a complete waste due to the physical realities of a low crime area over a large area of Loudoun.

In spite of the my opposition to wasteful spending, the board voted six yes with Delgaudio and Clark "no" to fund the western loudoun substation at a "reduced" rate of "only" $5.7 million of the $8.3 million originally proposed.
