Food Bank Moved

December 18, 2009

I hope you are home by now. I know many of you are out getting last minute items.

NWS reports HEAVY SNOW WITH ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 FEET THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT.

>>>FOOD BANK MOVED TO MONDAY NIGHT

I drove by Christ the Redeemer and saw the food distribution in full swing. I have a correction to make. There will be no need for volunteers Saturday, as the food bank was moved to tonight and Monday night.

Mark Gunderman tells me:

"Due to the record breaking advancing snow storm, LINK invited half of the needy guests to receive food, grocery gift certificates and toys on Friday night from 5 pm to 10 pm.

About half of the 670 families were invited to Christ the Redeemer Catholic, Trinity Presbyterian and Herndon United Methodist Churches.

Christ the Redeemer finished with its last family at 9:50 pm and sent them on their way to Herndon United Methodist for toys.

Trinity Presbyterian was still handling families at 10:00 pm so the toy store was still open for business as the snow began to fall heavily.

LINK plans to invite the other half of the registered guests on Monday night at all churches from 6 pm until 10 pm.

LINK thanks all the volunteers who could show up tonight and worked so hard as we were all shorthanded.

LINK looks forward to seeing all of you again on Monday night, said Mark Gunderman."

So if you can VOLUNTEER Monday night at 5:30 p.m., please report to Christ the Redeemer, or Trinity Presbyterian or Herndon United Methodist to help out. Thank you.

VDOT WORKERS ON THE JOB

I have received a notice that VDOT workers are beginning their 12 hour shift to clear roads. This is a heavy snow that will go more than 12 hours in "snowfall" so keep in mind there will be some areas left unshoveled due to the volume.

If you have any questions about VDOTs winter weather preparations there are several sources of information available to you. For general information on VDOTs preparations, visit its website, http://www.virginiadot.org/travel/snow.asp. For road and weather updates during a storm, you can dial 511 from a phone, or visit www.511virginia.org to view traffic cameral and road condition maps, as well as sign up for e-mail alerts. Another website available to you is www.ReadyVirginia.gov, which provides residents and visitors with emergency preparedness tips and information from the National Weather Service, and several Virginia agencies.
