>>>American Flag on Friday, September 11, 2009

Howard Manas reminds all patriotic Americans that they can fly the American Flag on 9-11 in order to honor those who have made a sacrifice for our country and to remember those who are making a sacrifice for our country now.

Now back to Loudoun's Hot Topic
>>>PROVEN RIGHT BY THE FACTS, AS USUAL

The president gave his speech to students at Wakefield High School in Arlington as planned this past Tuesday morning. I objected to 1. the suddeness in which Loudoun changed its position 2. the lack of notice to parents 3. the use of curriculum from the federal government that was clearly partisan and 4 the content of the President's message.

>>> SCHOOL BOARD BLAMES WASHINGTON FOR CONFUSION

As I wrote you Sunday -- the Leesburg Today published today as part of their news report (quote) "A series of changes from the school system regarding the speech itself over the seven days preceding the start of school on Monday only added to the confusion, with Superintendent Edgar B. Hatrick first stating that schools would not set aside time to allow students to view the speech."(unquote)

Continuing from the Leesburg Today: "However, all schools will be making time to share the address with students before Tuesday, Hatrick said. Parents of elementary school students will be able to opt their children out of viewing the speech, while middle- and high-school students will be allowed to make that decision for themselves."

>>> OFFICIAL SCHOOL LETTER DATED SEPT. 10

I am in possession of one letter dated September 10 from one elementary school stating "On Monday September 14 the students will be viewing a speech by President Obama.......If you do not wish for your child to view the Presidents speech, please call (phone) and send a letter with your child. (unquote).

In practice, it seems elementary school parents are being given time and a procedure to opt out.

>>> SUNDAY'S ALERT WAS TIMELY

I provided this basic information on Sunday and links to Dr. Hatrick's full statement. But which "TUESDAY" was Dr. Hatrick referring to in his letter? Was it Tuesday, Sept. 8? It was not clear to anybody.

As late as Tuesday Dec. 8 morning, the day of the President's speech, even the national media (CBS NEWS, New York Times, etc.) was quoting the chairman of the School Board stating that Loudoun county would NOT be hearing the President in its Tuesday Dec. 8 edition.

With the help of Sterling and other parents you alerted, students, children and other parents. Thank you for that.

Thanks to you they got at least some notice that the President had a speech for them at school. And more importantly, that they have the right to "opt out".

>>> LIBERALS ON THE BLOGS HATE ME

Hearing pushy liberals telling me how "extreme" I am for fighting for freedom of the school system and parental rights from federal control is a lot like being told by potential victims of crime that we don't need deputies.

What makes it absurd is that I do not object to the President talking to students who want to hear him, just give the children and parents and older students the right and EQUAL respect for not wanting to hear him.

>>> ADMINISTRATOR AND SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS ECHO MY REMARKS

The issue of federal takeover resonated at the School Board meeting Tuesday night. Along with how this got communicated.

The Leesburgtoday gives a good report on the lack of solid informaton and Sterling's Warren Guerin, Ashburn's Robert Onheiser and Dr. Ed Hatrick attack the federal Department of Education curriculum proposed to them last night in very emphatic terms
