Gazebo Ceremony Saturday

June 10, 2009

I appeared on the six oclock and 11 p.m. news tonight on channel nine concerning the burned down house. The goal of the actions taken by the board is to "encourage" a private solution but definitely empower staff to take action. I am quoting the Loudoun Independent here. I worked 2 years on this, one year to prepare the legislation and one year for the official time required under the statute.

>>>Loudoun Will Pay to Demolish Sterling Home

From the Independent newspaper "Four years is too long. That was the message from the Board of Supervisors in their decision to allocate $85,000 to remove the charred remains of a house at 45 Acorn Court in Sterling. The owner of the house, Carlyle Alford III, had pleaded for more time to complete repairs at the a public hearing in May, where neighbors urged the Board of Supervisors to take action to remove the remnants of the structure--citing public safety and growing concerns regarding the effect on the overall value and liveability of other homes in the area."

>> BOARD ADOPTS MAINTENANCE CODE

In a related action, it has taken 3 years and 2 different boards to get the board to adopt the Virginia maintenance code for residential houses so that when an owner fails to maintain the structure and it can be easily observed from the outside, then the county can take action to prevent the disrepair of the house. By a vote of 7 yes, one opposed (Sally Kurtz voted no) and one absent, the board adopted the Virginia Building Maintenance Code.

How much would you support a minor league baseball team in Loudoun?

Minor League Stadium Plan Criticized by Board
http://www.loudouni.com/news/2009-06-09/minor-league-stadium-plan-criticized-board

Here we go again. Like the earlier vote turning down a proposal for a partnership with the Redskins football organization, the Loudoun Board is reacting negatively to a minor league baseball franchise proposing a 5,500 seat "minor" stadium at Route 28 and route 7. (High schools "seat" 2000 to 3000).

>>> DELGAUDIO POSITION ON BASEBALL

I support minor league baseball in Loudoun at this location. No tax dollars will be used and the traffic issues are being worked on with the removal of a traffic light at Nokes Boulevard this week and the planned construction of an new interchange at Loudoun County Parkway and Route 7.

Warehouses are planned by right since this is an industrially zoned area so better planning is called for. The stadium is part of plan to better preserve the environmental assets of the property.

>>>McDonnnell and Wolf Imagine a Gang-Free Virginia

Republican candidate for governor and former Attorney General of Virginia Bob McDonnell visited Loudoun last weekend to unveil the "Make Virginia a Gang-Free Zone" plan, his weapon of choice in battling Virginia's growing crisis--street gangs.
