>>>> A MEETING OF SOME KIND WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT PARK VIEW

The county planning staff is having a meeting Wendesday night with "hispanic families" at Park View High School. I found out via a short announcement.

Calling an exclusive meeting for Spanish speaking residents with virtually no public notice sends the message that County staff will not be taking the problem of residential overcrowding seriously. That is a shame.

Given the fact that residential overcrowding was the top problem cited by Sterling residents, this quietly announced  meeting will appear to many citizens to be an attempt by county staff to find reasons not to enforce the law regarding home occupancy limits.

Hundreds of Sterling citizens attended 4 meetings last month.  But many of you were not able to go.

Could you, if you have not already, fill out the on-line "survey" forms. If you were unable to attend one of the sessions, you still have time to provide comments.

You might mention illegal aliens,  overcrowded houses, tall grass on front lawns, cars parked on front lawns, garbage being dumped on front lawns, commercial trucks and abandoned cars. I have to believe that your reporting will help.

The county, if you sign up, will keep you informed on future activities, including the posting of information from the sessions and Community Survey on their project web page at www.loudoun.gov/potomac-sterling.  "Your input is important!" says the county. Thank you.

>>>>> DELGAUDIO ASKS COUNTY TO PROVIDE FOR ON LINE COMPLAINTS

So, the county officially likes to hear your informal suggestions and general complaints online (see above).

But at the moment the county REFUSES to hear your official COMPLAINTS online. I am sponsoring legislation Tuesday June 17 directing staff to allow ON LINE zoning complaints. Prince William and Fairfax Counties already do this.

Sixty per cent of all zoning complaints are filed by Sterling residents. The county has stopped receiving faxed complaints recently. You have to use postal mail or hand deliver your signed complaints.

If you agree that the county should allow online filing of zoning and overcrowding complaints, please urge the board of supervisors to "vote yes on allowing online zoning complaints June 17."

Or tell them you don't mind using a 42 cent stamp and waiting 3 days for it to arrive in Leesburg. Write [email protected]. Thank you.

>>>>>>>>CARS PARKED ON THE FRONT LAWN?

Will the board vote to consider an ordinance to stop front lawns being used as parking lots in Sterling Park? A Delgaudio-supported measure that I promoted years ago is being reintroduced to prevent front lawns from being cemented over and converted to parking lots at the June 17 meeting.
I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WILL PASS.

The supervisors refused to consider illegal aliens a problem some months back (Five no, four yes) and then when it was proposed to encourage government workers and local company employees to apply for special county loans to buy Foreclosed houses in Sterling, the board voted 5 no, 4 yes and changed the offering to a countywide project rather than "just help Sterling". Simply put, they need to hear from the public.

>>> SHOOTING IN BIG LOTS SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the victim from a Saturday night homicide in Sterling.

(I got this announcement today, Tuesday, and the shooting was Saturday night. That's 3 days to get the name of the victim-- ED)

Danilo Jose Ramirez-Vega, 26, of Sterling was found suffering from a gunshot wound after deputies were called to the 300 block of Sterling Boulevard around 9:40 PM.

He was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital and was pronounced dead around midnight.

(A later official statement says)The investigation has determined the victim was shot during an altercation with two Hispanic males who were riding on one bicycle in the area of Big Lots Department Store. The suspects are described as two Hispanic males, medium build.  One suspect was wearing a black tee-shirt and the other suspect wearing a black and white horizontal striped shirt and dark shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator John Smith of the Loudoun County Sheriff Office at 703-777-1021.

Investigators Release Composite Sketch of Suspect in Sterling Homicide

(Based on a citizen call, I visited the scene Saturday night and thank the many deputies, fire and rescue units that were out doing their job on very short notice. Most responded within minutes. Some worked all night.)

>>>>Loudoun Launches Prescription Drug Discount Card for County Residents

Loudoun County has launched a discount card program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The county is making free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that offers average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.

There is no cost to county taxpayers for NACo and Loudoun to make these money-saving cards available to residents.
A list of places where cards are available is online at

>>> JULY 22, PARK VIEW HIGH SCHOOL

Yes, I know July 22 is quite some time OFF. But we are talking LOUDOUN COUNTY HERE.

The county has set July 22 as the "tentative" date for the board of supervisors to meet at Park View High School to hear recommendations on how to address nearly unanimous outcry from Sterling Park residents to fix the quality of life issues. It will probably be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday July 22. I will keep you informed.

Then after the board hears the county staff suggestions, they will meet for their "STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSIONS" beginning July 23, the next night.  So please plan to make sure they include STERLING PARK in their "strategic planning" by coming out July 22.
