Tax Free Weekend and more

July 29, 2007

>>> WE NEED THE RAIN, THANK GOD.

Sterling got some rain today with a thunderstorm overhead. We have gotten some nighttime rain here and there but this is a heavy storm and we need and it was quite loud. But there is lots of rain and we really needed it.

This newsletter has 17 announcements, events, free food items and a crime watch section. I have numbered them.

1
>>>Graffiti on wall along Route 7 and "Public Salvaging"

Graffiti has been removed, finally, by VDOT crews on Route 7 wall. On another front: I recently summoned deputies to investigate two men dismantling a car on a busy public street or what I call "public salvaging". Deputies determined one of the men owned the car. New Topic: I am working to ban "public salvaging" so traffic distractions of this nature don't happen again.

>>>********Sales Tax Free Holiday This Week
Virginia's back-to-school sales tax holiday will be Friday August 3 Saturday August 4 and Sunday August 5. A good rule of thumb is that any school supply item under $20 and any article of clothing under $100 is exempt from the sales tax during the sales tax holiday period. The Department of Taxation has just released the specifics of this year's holiday.

>>> YOUR LETTERS TO THE EDITOR AND TO THE BOARD ARE NEEDED

Thank you to the many who are writing the Board of Supervisors and the various local newspapers (Connection, Loudoun Easterner, and Independent). Please keep writing. ([email protected]) Thanks.

Liberals in the news media are questioning my $20 million estimate of savings from cutting off funds to illegal aliens. The figure is actually just an estimate. I would like to adjust
my earlier estimate upward.

>>>$300 MILLION IN COSTS FOR LOW-SKILLED ILLEGAL ALIENS IN LOUDOUN COUNTY

Using the Heritage Foundation forumlation from their research for the total spent on low-skilled illegal aliens for federal, state and local (combined including Loudoun County tax costs) thats 300,000,000 dollars in costs. (three hundred million). I get that by multiplying 15,000 estimated illegal aliens in Loudoun County (a LOW ESTIMATE) by the $20,000 net figure cited by the Heritage foundation experts (adjusted upward by $500 for the cost of education) to obtain $300 million.

Here are more resources to use.
