HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

Today at the board meeting I condemned all the new taxes being imposed through traffic fines and legislation from Richmond.

I reminded my fellow members of the board of supervisors that at the last meeting they voted to impose a $250 million debt by endorsing and signing on with Metro rail. I said these new fines, taxes and debts would impact Sterling.

I introduced a resolution putting the Loudoun Board of Supervisors in opposition to these seven new taxes imposed by legislation passed in Richmond and signed by the Democratic Party Governor.

The resolution passed 9 YES, Zero Opposed.

Mick Staton introduced and I seconded another resolution asking the county attorney to be ready to join legal opposition when the first lawsuit is filed. It also passed unanimously.

Loudoun County stands against the seven taxes. These taxes can be imposed upon us without our permission, but at least you know the county supervisors have agreed to fight them.

Claude Moore Park is hosting an Ol' Fashioned 4th of July Festival from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 4. Activities throughout the day include hands-on nature activities outside Frogshackle Nature Center, patriotic craft making, whipped cream pie eating contest, demonstrations by Reptiles Alive!, performances by The Sterling Playmakers, wagon rides, pony rides, face painting, food and tours of the Lanesville Ordinary.

Parking will be available at the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum and at the Sportsplex area. Celebrants are asked to enter the park via Loudoun Park Lane. The cost for the event is $5 per carload, which can be paid at the gate. All activities within the event are free. I will be there.

Events, including a community kickball game, arts and crafts activities, clown and balloon artists performing, bingo and fireworks start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, and go until 10 p.m. Location: Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Ave., and Bready Park. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m., choreographed to patriotic music. Bloom Grocery Stores is the title sponsor of this event. (Rain date: July 5 for fireworks only.)
