Sterling has a Presidential Candidate?

April 9, 2007

Happy Easter Monday to you all. All of Loudoun's houses of worship were filled to capacity Friday, Saturday and Monday. Congratulations to all for making Sterling a better community.

>>>> CONTEST IS IN ERNEST
>>>> NO LIMIT ON PIZZA OR DONATIONS

The great Santini has said "We will not run out of pizza". Is he right? So help me out here. Help eat some pizza and see if Santini's can keep up with you. Don't forget your job is help eat sandwiches, salad or any of the fine food Mr. Santini is making for this event. I know you can do it. Sterling must do it. And of course, if you can, donate as large a check as possible. There is no limit to the pizza and there is no limit to the amount you can write on that check to donate to "Friends of Delgaudio" for my re-election. Thank you.

>>>>Discovery Park Fix-It Weekend-- The Story Continues

Some minor maintenance is needed on Discovery Park to finish up some things that did not get completed last Fall. To kick things off, a Tile Painting Party is planned for Friday, April 20th at Sully Elementary School from 6:30-7:30pm. All children are invited to come and paint a tile that will be installed all around the park. It is free of charge. Pizza and drinks will also be provided free of charge.

Everyone is also welcome to come to Discovery Park the weekend of April 28th-29th to help with some fixing up. We will be there starting at 8:00am. Lunch will be provided free of charge. No skill is required. Relive the experience for one hour.

Valerie Petrey, Peter Kronenberg, Peter Klosky and hundreds of parents and Sterling volunteers from all walks of life put this project together. The single most important volunteer project since Briar Patch Park. Keep it going with a little help.

>>>>>A Future President From Sterling?

During a long news media interview I stated on Good Friday morning that, today, a young person in Sterling could be a future President. I was promoting how devoted all of Sterlings parents are to their children and that of course Sterling could be the home of a future President. I was delighted to find out, indeed, when I learned after the interview "Sterling has a Presidential Candidate",

>>>Sterling Has A Candidate for President!

Michael Monrroy, age 17, of Sterling is running for President of the American University freshman student body. He is an honor roll student at Park View HS and graduates this year and announced for the Presidency earlier. He is using "facebook" to fuel his campaign and has signed up nearly 200 supporters so far, with 41 from AU. Monrroy will be at the April 13 Delgaudio for Supervisor event and is supporting Delgaudio and we are supporting him in his run as well. He is seeking support of college freshman at AU and of course would welcome the support of any Park View HS and other Sterling "Facebook" college students.

>>>> CLEAN UP SATURDAY APRIL 14 9 A.M.

Sterling Boulevard Cleanup, Saturday, April 14, 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers needed. Meet at Park View Recycling Center (400 W Laurel Ave.) to receive orange bags, safety vests, instructions and directions. Please bring gloves. In
case of inclement weather, cleanup will be deferred to April 21. For more information, call Kevin Chroninger at 703-406-7749 or visit www.sterlingfoundation.org. This is another largely unheralded worker-bee Sterling group getting little television news recognition for their singular devotion to Sterling.

>>> 80 PEOPLE IN A HOUSE

The chances of this type of headline in Sterling has been greatly reduced due to my anti-crowding ordinance being enforced and your continued reporting of overcrowded houses.

>>> WE STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS

Okay maybe that's a little much. It being Easter, allow me to express thanks to the men and women of the community to make our lives as good as it is. Look around you. Churches, sports leagues, teachers, volunteers of all kinds.

In this e-letter I talk about some of the big projects and more to come (Lower Loudoun Football League) this year. Let's recognize some who were around before the internet was invented. Before cell phones and before pagers there was the STERLING PARK JAYCEETTES AND JAYCEES for Junior Chamber of Commerce. The names are etched on a plaque that is fixed to a large stone at the Briar Patch Park where 20 slides stand since 1984. In May of that year these families and many local businesses contributed their time and money to build Briar Patch park: Gwen Thompson, Project Chairman and George and Linda Armstrong, Ken and Cheryl Benjamin, Thomas and Audie Dawson, Charles Kahn, Howard Manas, John and Sharon Murphy, The Shie Tribe, and Tommy and Gwen Thompson. Not since Briar Patch Park has there been more projects being worked on in Sterling so lets not forget who started that spirit.
