Schools Closed Monday

February 26, 2007

Loudoun County Schools are closed Monday, Feb. 26 due to the snowfall today. Trucks were out all day plowing and most of you shoveled the walk or driveway by nightfall.

Thank you for helping your neighbor if you did that. Today was completely a mess if you tried to get out to church in the morning due to the heavy snow.

Here's the report from a Virginia Department of Transportation official today for "northern Virginia":

With a mixture of snow, sleet and ice moving through the Northern Virginia area today (Sunday), I wanted to keep you abreast of our snow/ice removal operations. Beginning at 6 a.m., 552 salt trucks treated all interstates and other high volume roads. However, since about 10 a.m., road conditions have rapidly deteriorated due to heavy snowfall. Both I-95 and I-66 are snow covered and crews are now having to re-treat and plow major roads.

Known hot spots in subdivisions have been or are now being treated, including those areas which had safety concerns during last week's ice storm. For the rest of the day shift, crews will patrol to insure that icy conditions are reduced. Park-and-ride lots will be sanded plowed in preparation for the morning commute. A night crew will also be activated to address conditions this evening and tomorrow morning. (end of quote).

>>>THE USUAL DRILL:

LET ME know by return email if the VDOT trucks have not been over to your street. Some places are getting plowed later so that the primary roads are plowed.

>>> Transportation Plan Includes Northern Virginia

The Republican-backed plan includes fee hikes for newly arrived Virginia residents (not 18 year olds) for their drivers license. I will get you details.

Bill Bolling says "The Senate and House of Delegates have given final approval to the compromise transportation plan offered by Republican legislative leaders. The final version of the transportation plan continues to have a statewide component that will raise an additional $600M a year for highway construction throughout Virginia, and two local option regional plans that will raise additional money for Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads."
