SAFETY AND TRANSPORT. MTGS IN STERLING

January 16, 2007

>>>2nd Public Meeting on Sheriff's Substation at Rolling Ridge Elementary School
>>>MONDAY, JAN. 29, 6:30 P.M.

As I requested several months ago another public meeting on the proposed construction of a Loudoun County Sheriff's Office substation next to Rolling Ridge Elementary School will be held Monday, January 29, 2007, at 6:30 p.m., at the school, which is located at 500 East Frederick Drive in Sterling.

Eugene Delgaudio of Sterling District, School Board and Sheriff Stephen Simpson will host the session to update the community on the proposal to build the facility on a parcel adjacent to Rolling Ridge Elementary School. The meeting will review recent Board of Supervisors and School Board actions, public process requirements and timelines, and planning processes.

The proposed substation is envisioned to be an 18,000-square-foot facility that will provide patrol, crime prevention, and other law enforcement services to the Sterling area. The facility will house staff offices, a community room, deputy work rooms and temporary prisoner- holding facilities. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office will provide coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week under the command of a Sheriff's captain.

The planned substation is expected to provide substantial public safety services to the community reduce travel time to the Sheriff's Office Headquarters in Leesburg and expand the Sheriff's Community Policing Program. Incorporating a community meeting room would also provide a venue for community meetings easily accessible from Sterling Boulevard.

>>>> STERLING TRANSPORTATION COMMUNITY MEETING
>>> THESE ARE CONSTRUCTION PLANS

On a date to be determined, there will be another meeting to access plans for improvements on Route 7.

The County hired A. Morton Thomas and Associates (AMT) to refine the VHB company's concepts into construction plans and associated bidding documents. A preliminary design has been completed and will be presented at a Community Information Meeting in the near future. I will keep you informed as to the date and time.

The Loudoun County Transportation office will be mailing notices about the Sterling Community Information Meeting to all properties fronting on Route 7 and all homeowners/owners associations along Route 7 from the Fairfax County Border to NOVA campus. Drawings and sketches will be available for interested individuals to review and discuss with the designers and County staff. Citizen comments will be accepted, reviewed and considered as the construction plans move through the design process.
