Flood Warning

May 16, 2003

Flood warnings are in effect. The national weather service has extended a flood watch until 1:30 A.M. Friday. Look for standing water all over Loudoun County for rush hour in the morning. It will be raining through the night.

Keep checking your basements. I have been checking sewers and drains in Sterling and they are mostly operating. Please let me know of any major problems and try to clear any clogged drains. Thanks.

Sheriff Simpson Confirms

He's the only law enforcement official to have his own Golf Fundraising Event. He graduated the FBI Academy and has referred many Loudoun deputies there too. Attorney General John Ashcroft came to Park View HS to honor this man's neighborhood watch program as a premier operation and presented a big check to him.

And now he has confirmed that he will be at the world famous JIMMY G'S Restaurant, in Sterling, under the Clocktower opposite Burlington Coat Factory off of Route 7 this Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m. for free coffee and bagels.

His name is Sheriff Steve Simpson and his campaign colors are gold for a gold standard in law enforcement. To have his sticker on your car is to tell low life undesirables: peddle your contraband in another county.

Geurin In Again

After attending two previous packed Jimmy G's breakfast events and since receiving encouragement from neighbors , Sterling District School Board Member J. Warren Geurin announced this week that he will seek re-election to the Loudoun County School Board in November. I called him "Man of the Year" in a Leesburg Today website comment when he attempted to defend parents and children against transient upheaval of teachers leaving for other Loudoun Schools without any limits. Now LT gives him good press:

Soldier from Sterling seeks help for family

The Loudoun Easterner newspaper reports: A Loudoun soldier is asking for a little help for his wife and family left behind in Sterling.

Spc. Javier Mery, who was activated last November from his unit in Leesburg to help guard detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, recently wrote that while he is proud to serve, he worries about his family's problems at home.

His wife is from Bolivia and speaks little English, and she and the three children have no other family members in this area. She stays at home with the children and the family exists on an income halved since he was called to active duty. He was recently made aware that his car needs minor repairs and his wife needs help installing lights at their back door and with grass that needs to be planted.

"I need sort of a trustable and reliable person..."

He added, My wife is not very fluent in English. Please be patient with her...I'll be home for Christmas."

Volunteers willing to donate time and effort are asked to call the editorial department at the Easterner, 703 858-5300 to be placed in touch with the Sterling family.
