Shots Fired In Sterling Last Night

July 19, 2006

I was in a Board of Supervisors meeting last night and got home at 11
p.m. I am getting reports about what happened last night.

I will be on Sterling Blvd. visiting citizens today. I am considering
actions that need to be taken by deputies and by Loudoun County in response.

This is an outrage to have happened. There is and must be a different
attitude and resolve in Sterling and throughout the Washington region
and in Richmond about what appears to be yet another sign of a criminal
enterprise that needs to be put out of business.

>>>Sheriff's Office Investigates Series of Drive-By Shootings

The Sheriff's Office is investigating a series of drive-by shootings
that occurred overnight Wednesday in the Sterling area that sent one
victim to the hospital with serious injuries.

The first incident occurred on Coventry Square shortly after 1 AM where
a man was shot. Several homes were struck in this area. There were also
reports of gunfire and homes were struck in the area of Aster Terrace,
Holborn Court and North Argonne Avenue also in Sterling.

A preliminary investigation reveals the possibility that the shootings
are gang-related.

The victim was airlifted to Washington Hospital Center where he is
being treated for serious injuries.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the
Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475.
Callers wishing to remain anonymous should contact Loudoun Crime Solvers
at 703-777-1919. If the information provided leads to an arrest and
indictment the caller could be eligible for a cash reward of up to
$1000.

More details will be released as they become available.
