February 23, 2003

We had high winds today, heavy fog, flooding, rains and deep deep snow throughout the week. I met many neighbors every day and will remember the kind reception given to me especially when when I escorted a bulldozer down several streets. These were the VDOT "Snowfighters" who did not rest from Monday through Thursday.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS meets Monday

The Board of Supervisors will be meeting Monday, February 24 at 9 a.m. to make up for last week's cancelled board meeting due to the heavy snow. There will be a Finance Committee meeting at 3:30 p.m. and a Transportation Committee meeting at 5:30 p.m.

REPUBLICAN MEETING

High Drama and Liberals Squealing

I invited you all to come and join me at the last Republican meeting. Many of you did actually join me for front row seats at the last Republican Meeting (the entire front and 2nd rows!) and we had a great time. For free -- no charge.

Even Democrats came to join us in a packed room (Democrat Supervisor Sally Kurtz and others). Their eyes bugged out of their heads as they saw convention style music and even hoopla and cheers throughout the meeting.

I am supporting former Supervisor Steve Whitener for chairman of the Republican Party. Steve had held national political office in President Ronald Reagan's Administration. For 20 years, Steve has worked with national political leaders like current Republican National Committeeman Morton Blackwell. Steve is a guiding light to hundreds of political leaders in Virginia and in Loudoun County. The liberals on this current Board of Supervisors are FEARFUL of a man with Steve's expertise holding the position of Republican Chairman.

CONVENTION CONVENTION CONVENTION

Futher clarification is needed in the Plan that we voted on and the Liberals will be using this opportunity to stop the Convention. So, there will be another vote in favor of a convention process for the nomination of candidates for public office. We need your help to make it an overwhelming vote.

So join me again Monday night. Look for my orange hat and orange vest. I hope to get a front row seat again.

THE LOCATION FOR THE FEBRUARY 24th LCRC MEETING HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SIMPSON MIDDLE SCHOOL IN LEESBURG. The meeting time remains 7:30, and the date remains Monday, February 24th.

The Loudoun County Adminstrator cleared the Board room for the Board of Supervisors meeting that had to be rescheduled -- requiring the LCRC to find a new location.

I objected to the decision to cancel the Republican Committee meeting in the Board Room, last Thursday night during a Budget Hearing in which Chairman York spent one hour waiting for some citizens who did not show up. Factors influencing this low turnout at a budget hearing could be the severe weather conditions of this week, and the fact that a clear majority of Supervisors will vote for budget and tax increases no matter what the public says. Saturday's hearing was cancelled.

VDOT AND DEPUTIES WIPE OUT GRAFITTI

Sheriff's Office Removes Gang Related Graffiti

Members of the Sheriff's Office Community Work Force along with members of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office removed gang related graffiti in Sterling recently. The graffiti was located along the outer portion of the sound barrier wall along Harry Byrd Highway (Route 7) near the intersection of Sterling Boulevard.

Sheriff Stephen O. Simpson said "by cleaning this up, it shows the gang members that someone cares about the community." He added "studies show that the quicker the graffiti is removed the less it is likely to return."

In cases where graffiti has been discovered members of the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division and Community Policing work in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Transportation and property and business owners to make sure the graffiti is removed in a timely manner.

Home Depot in Sterling donated and helped match the paint used for today's project. VDOT Staff assisted also. >>>Thank you to all VDOT Staff, Deputies and Home Depot!
