Sterling: Skeletal Remains Identified as Possible Early to Mid-20th Century Human Skull

October 19, 2018

Official Sheriff's Office Statement:

Skeletal remains located earlier this month in a wooded area near W. Church Road and N. Aspen Avenue in Sterling have been identified as a possible early to mid-20th-century era human skull. There is no indication of foul play and no other remains were located in the area. The skull was also found to have no identifying characteristics.

The skull was located around 11:30 a.m. on October 6, 2018, by an LCSO Deputy who was on foot patrol in the area. The skull appeared to have been discarded in a wooded area. The skull was painted and drawn on. It remains unclear as to where the skull came from and why it was in the area.

There is no indication of any threat to the community.

The Office of the Medical Examiner worked with anthropologists to further identify the origin of the skull.
