Two Loudoun Deputies Recognized at the 25th Annual Awards for Excellence in Community Service and Public Safety

Two Loudoun Sheriff's Deputies were among those recognized this Friday at the 25th Annual Awards for Excellence in Community Service and Public Safety ceremony held at the Westfields Marriott in Fairfax, Virginia. The event honors officers in the Northern Virginia region for their efforts in community service and public safety. The ceremony was organized by the Fairfax Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Virginia Program. Aaron Gilchrist of NBC News4 Today, performed as Masters of Ceremonies and he was accompanied by guest speaker WTOP Traffic Reporter, Bob Marboug.

Loudoun County Sheriff's Deputy First Class (DFC) Ruben Cardenas and Deputy Glenn Keough were recognized for their outstanding 2015 achievements. DFC Cardanes made 22 DUI arrests, 11 felony arrests, and 68 misdemeanor arrests while Deputy Keough made 23 DUI arrests, 36 felony arrests, and 49 misdemeanor arrests. Both DFC Cardenas and Deputy Keough are currently assigned to Patrol in the Field Operations Division and have been with the agency since 2014.

Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman, who addressed the gathering on behalf of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, noted the outstanding work of the deputies, the Fairfax County ASAP and MADD. Sheriff Chapman also remarked on the progress MADD has made over the past 35 years in helping reduce blood alcohol level content requirements nationwide.

Also recognized at the event were members of police departments in the City of Alexandria, Arlington County, Fairfax County, City of Fairfax, City of Falls Church, George Mason University, Town of Herndon, Town of Leesburg, City of Manassas Park, Prince William County, Town of Purcellville, United States Park Police, Town of Vienna, Town of Warrenton, and the Virginia State Police.
