American Legion Asks Sterling's RISING SENIORS to consider BOYS OR GIRLS STATE

American Legion Post 150 is seeking several Sterling area young men and women to attend this outstanding gathering of young leaders selected from our area high schools: Dominion, Park View, Potomac Falls & Home Schooled students who live in the mentioned schools districts.

These premier, nonpartisan programs teach high school students how government works while helping them develop leadership skills and an appreciation for their rights as American citizens. Students who are having completed their junior year, "rising seniors" join participants from all across Virginia to run for office, learn public speaking, create and enforce laws and actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government in this exciting and fun one week summer program. They develop confidence and leadership skills that will shape their future, and many will remain friends for life.

The girls' program is held at Longwood University and the boys' is at Radford University. The week of June 21-27 2015 is the confirmed date for this year. Through the generosity of Sterling individuals and civic groups enables us to send outstanding young people who have demonstrated their Americanism stressing God and Country.

All candidates for the program are initially recommended by their high school guidance counselors and subsequently interviewed by the Post's Selection Team to compete for one of these highly valued scholarship slots in the program.
