Two Sterling Men Apprehended After Burglary in Progress on E. Staunton Avenue

Loudoun County, VA- Two men are in custody after a quick response by Loudoun County Sheriff's Deputies to a burglary in progress early Tuesday morning.

Loudoun Sheriff's Deputies were called to a residence in the 200 block of East Staunton Avenue around 1:30AM on August 5th after a resident heard someone knocking on their door. The resident then reported seeing a flashlight pointed through a window before he secured himself inside a bathroom inside the home.

As the resident was speaking with a dispatcher in the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Emergency Communications Center, he heard breaking glass and believed the suspects were inside the home.

Deputies responding to the scene quickly established a perimeter after two suspects were observed running from the home through the backyard of the residence. A K-9 Unit responded to the scene to assist with the search.

Two suspects were located in the area of South Buckingham Road and East Tazewell Road. Detectives assigned to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Eastern Loudoun Station responded to the scene and worked with members of the Patrol Unit to investigate the burglary and conduct interviews.

"The resident provided accurate and timely information while ensuring his own safety," said Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman. "Combined with our deputies' quick response in establishing a perimeter, we were able to apprehend these suspects before they could commit more crimes in the county," Sheriff Chapman added.

The suspects, Michael W. Jenkins, 22, and Shane C. Peterman, 26, both of Sterling, VA, were charged with burglary with intent to commit a felony or larceny. Peterman was charged additionally with drunk in public.
