$100,000 STOLEN FROM ELDER LOUDOUN COUPLE

LCSO Reminds Senior Citizens & their Family Members to be Leery of Phone Scams After Senior Couple Bilked of $100,000 in Lottery Scam

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is alerting senior citizens and their family members of a phone scam involving the lottery after a Loudoun couple was bilked of nearly 100-thousand-dollars.

The couple sent the money overseas via money order believing they had won 41-million-dollars. The couple received a call stating they won the lottery but needed to pay fees and taxes. They were then asked to send money to an overseas account in order to collect the money. No legitimate lottery or sweepstakes collects money up front from winners.

The senior citizen community is asked to be leery of requests for wiring monies out of the country. Family members are also reminded to not only check on their senior parents and grandparents physically, but also financially.

Scammers typically target the senior community believing they can be easily financially exploited. They often target seniors via mail, e-mail, or by telephone.

>>>Columbia Gas Easement Clearing Along South Lincoln

Representatives of Columbia Gas are planning to clear their gas pipeline easement that runs from Fairfax County into Loudoun County in the general vicinity of Sterling Park (just north of the intersection of S Lincoln and E Maple). This line runs in between many houses in Sterling Park. In a majority of this area, property owners have allowed vegetation to grow in the easement, and in some cases sheds and fences encroach upon the easement.

Columbia Gas plans to mail information to homeowners beginning next Tuesday, October 5th.

They do not plan to begin any of this activity prior to October 18th. Look for letters in the mail from Columbia.

(MAN OF THE YEAR)GUNDERMAN WRITES "CHURCHES ARE LIKE ANT COLONIES

Ants are social insects that live and work together in large communities. Each member has a position to fill, from laying eggs, nurturing the young, gathering food or constructing and protecting the nest from enemies. Foraging ants go out daily and each one brings back to the colony some small asset. None returns empty-handed.
