SNOW AND ICE

December 6, 2009

I hope all is well. Many of you got your Christmas lights up earlier and then the snow storm hit. So I hope you are all in the Christmas spirit.

And we are all tired from bad driving conditions and shoveling snow and ice.

The plow trucks did their job. Let me know if you were missed.

Put some more lights or decorations up and celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah or other seasonal holiday as best you can. This is Sterling and we have to show Loudoun how to do it you know.

>>> FIRE IN STERLING PARK

At approximately 10 p.m. hours Saturday Dec. 5, fire volunteer units from Sterling, Cascades, Fairfax County, Moorefield, and Ashburn fire stations along with Sterling Rescue responded to a reported apartment fire at 201 North Fillmore Avenue in Sterling Park.

Units arrived on the scene to find a second story apartment with heavy smoke conditions. Units were able to determine that the fire originated on the kitchen area, quickly extinguishing the hazard and beginning to remove the smoke while checking for extension in the rest of the building. There were no injuries reported.

NUMBER ONE ON MONDAY EVENING AGENDA

>>> CARS ON LAWNS AT MONDAY DEC. 7 PUBLIC HEARING

This Monday night, December 7, 2009 the Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing regarding the Zoning Ordinance Amendment (ZOAM) 2009-0002", Parking and Paving Restrictions in Yard Areas.

The amendment proposes to restrict the parking of vehicles in yards, on unpaved surfaces, and limit the amount of paved parking surface permitted in yards.

The public hearing will begin at 6:30PM and will be held in the Board Room located on the 1st floor of the Loudoun County Government Center at 1 Harrison Street, S.E. in Leesburg,

"Cars on lawns" is the number one agenda item so it will come up at 6:30 p.m. sharp.

This proposed amendment is intended to address some of the key issues raised during the Potomac/Sterling Outreach project that occurred from February through October of 2008 when over 1,000 Sterling citizens turned out for four (4) nights over a 2 week period to repeatedly demand county action.

Sterling residents have publicly demanded action on this type of neglect by the county for years.

Along with overcrowding, garbage, illegal aliens, crime, tall grass, blight, and abandoned vehicles, this is right up on the list of top ten safety, health and welfare issues that impact our quality of life.

>>>>DELGAUDIO NEWSLETTER IN MAIL CRITICAL OF CARS ON LAWNS

Sterling residents received the Delgaudio report last week with a front page article on cars on lawns.

One thousand and forty one citizens in Sterling have signed a petition asking for this ordinance.

Please write again. Thank you.

Please write the Board of Supervisors at [email protected] to register your opinion again. AND put "Pass The No Cars On Lawn Ordinance (ZOAM) 2009-0002" in the subject heading. All 9 supervisors will get the message.

HERE WE GO AGAIN DEPARTMENT
Board to Hold Special Meeting on Use of Courthouse Grounds December 10

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2009, on the use of the Loudoun County Courthouse grounds, to include pending applications for use and any rules, regulations or conditions for the use of the grounds.

The meeting will take place in the School Board Meeting Room of the Loudoun County Public Schools Administration building, 21000 Education Court in Ashburn, Virginia, 20148. We have other meetings there on Thursday starting at 4, the time for the Religious Displays discussion is 5:30 p.m. (you can watch on cable or on the webcast).

Opinion: I thought the board of supervisors had made itself perfectly clear but it seems "additional instruction is necessary" from the board of supervisors.

But the "citizens committee will not meet until Dec. 22". I think the board should "fire" the volunteer citizens committee and replace it with citizens who can follow the direction from the board of supervisors.

In the meantime, could you tell the board to "definitely positively absolutely allow the placement of religious displays on the courthouse grounds today, or sooner and give staff the same instructions" at [email protected]. Thank you.

If you can donate the full $600,000 that would be appreciated.

More likely you will want to donate less than $600,000!

The only way I fund my budget is to receive many donations to add up to that $600,000.

Like everybody else who wins elections many times, it takes asking you for that help.

It is up to you if I have the funds.

You have my promise to work hard, campaign hard and have only hard workers and dedicated staff as I have done day in and day out since first winning election in 1999.

Your check for $500 will continue the leadership you believe in.

Or your donation of $250 will answer the critics who cry for more tax increases.

Donate $150 or $100 if you can. Or please send $50 or $25.

Tell me if you can come to my January 7 2010 party of course and take a moment with me to mark my 55th Birthday.
