JUNIPER IS LIT!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everybody.
>>> Santa today in Sterling?
As part of the Christmas season, I think I heard from a source that the community police and volunteer firemen are hosting a visit from Santa Claus over at the Safeway supermarket next to Joe's Pizza today. I am heading over there after sending out this newsletter.
>>>Lights Up on Juniper
A newspaper reports 15 and growing. Now it is up to 30 houses on Juniper. Spiderman is climbing the walls of one house.
Go to Juniper and walk the street. Take the time one night before New Year's.
>>>Construction Begun at Sherrif Substation
The cranes and the dirt is being turned for the new Substation on Frederick. They are stripping top soil and creating an erosion control berm as well as locating utilities for the 2 trailers that will be on site.
>>>Redskins BACK IN THE GAME
>>>37 Million out the window
The December 2nd meeting of the board of supervisors was recessed until Thursday December 18. The board voted five yes and four no (no's were Burton, Delgaudio, Waters and York) to the $37 million sole source radio contract for Motorola. Then moving onto the $100,000 contract to partner with the Redskins, the board voted five yes 3 no and one absent for the vote to reconsider the Redskins. Then the board voted five yes, 3 no one absent for the vote to form a special committee to work out the details of the arrangement. I sang Hail to the Redskins and remarked "This is the first time the Redskins have won something in a long time."
>>> NEWSLETTER ALERT
Look for the Delgaudio report next week in the mail at every residence in Sterling.
>>> OUT SHOPPING AND NEED SOME FOOD?
I know we're all busy getting errands done during this time of the season. Let's not forget the generous donors to the Honor Roll Program that benefits 1,000 students at Sterling Middle School and Park View High School.Those donors include Chick Filet in Sugarland Crossing, Glory Day's Grill, Joe's pizza by the Safeway are just some of the supporters of the honor roll students.
>>THURSDAY JAN. 15, LAW ENFORCEMENT NIGHT
The postcards mailed out wishing you Merry Christmas has many people calling me and telling me the day is wrong. It is a standard direct mail tease that my staff is responsible for. Many citizens are confirming by phone and email the mistake. That means maximum attendence for THURSDAY JAN. 15, 6:30 P.M. PARK VIEW H.S. Auditorium.
We are making lemonade out of lemons. Delgaudio's staff put out Tuesday but it is actually THURSDAY JAN. 15. When you see my staff just wish them Happy New Year.
Now that I have your attention, the planned event has been announced and is in some newspapers for Thursday, January 15 and there will be more reminders coming from me "next year".
I have asked law enforcement officials from local, state, and federal agencies to brief the Sterling community on current crime fighting efforts. We have held several community meetings on this subject this past year and the community has turned out big time joining neighborhood watches and volunteering with the auxiliary deputy program.
I am seeking all citizens to better understand some of the tools available and the agencies and departments that work daily for the betterment of our community. I believe that Congressman Frank Wolf, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Postal Service, the Virginia State Police are examples of law enforcement in Sterling and they will be present Jan. 15. ICE and local deputies will brief us as well on THURSDAY, JAN. 15.

>>>Weyrich Passes On
My friend and supporter Paul Weyrich died Thursday at age 66. Paul founded not only the Free Congress Foundation but also the Heritage Foundation and was the first Heritage President. The list of accomplishments are many and while hospitalized a number of times, and often in pain, Paul continued his admirable and extensive work as a leader of the cultural, political and social conservative movement.
Lee Edwards, another conservative I quoted every day while at college, says in tribute about Weyrich:
"Paul may have had the fastest wit in Washington. Right after the operation to remove his two legs, he was visited by a delegation of young men from his church where he served as deacon. Looking at their long faces, he looked up from his bed and said, "Well, I've been trying to think of something cheerful to say, but frankly I'm stumped."
It was Weyrich and his many partners who encouraged, recognized and saluted my own many projects in Washington and throughout the country over the last 25 years to promote conservative values. I will attend his wake Sunday, Dec. 21.
>>> Welcome back Tom Davis
Sterling's Tom Davis has returned from his service in Iraq. He served a full tour in Afghanistan and was called to serve again a tour in Iraq and has returned safe. Welcome him and others who are here for the Holiday season or after finishing their tours. Pray for the safe return of all of Sterling's members of the Armed Forces defending our country.
>>>Churches are open
Every church has long hours during this Christmas season. Christmas eve seems to be the most packed and crowded time for Churches in Sterling and Loudoun. Try to squeeze in some time and join the crowd at the church of your choice. I will be attending several churches as I usually do during Christmas and I hope I see you at one of them.
>>>Board of Supervisors is closed
My office has Christmas lights in the fifth floor window and a giant Christmas wreath on the door. The ten foot Christmas Tree in my office (which used to be Scott York's office 9 years ago) has American flags along with traditional ornaments.
The board of supervisors will not meet this week and the following week. Thank you.
We will come back January 5 and I wonder if the board will adopt my frequent suggestions to record each vote electronically so that the public can see how the board votes on each issue. I have attempted to bring this issue up by calling for roll call votes and veteran western Loudoun Supervisor Jim Burton agrees that we are long past the time on the Loudoun board where we don't know how we voted even after we cast our votes in public unless I call for a roll call vote.
To solve the problem of supervisors needing to work sixty hour weeks just to fulfill their committee and organization memberships, one suggestion is to have one all day meeting for all committees.
I suggest again what I suggested earlier their year: eliminate the four million dollars in memberships in regional organizations and that will save us money and the supervisors their time.
>>> LAST NIGHT IN STERLING DURING THE RAIN
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office joined forces with the Fairfax County Police Department, the Virginia State Police and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in the dedication of a sobriety checkpoint held in memory of a Loudoun woman who lost her life last year when she was struck and killed by a drunk driver.
The checkpoint took place in the Eastern Loudoun area on Friday, December 19 from 11:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. Saturday.I will get you a report on arrests or results in a few days.
>>>Phone Banking for Pat Herrity
Pat Herrity (Son of the late Jack Herrity) says he will start phone banking every day from their office. This is a great way to reach out to fellow supporters to remind them about the importance of this election February 3 in Fairfax. If you would like to join us or make calls from home, please email [email protected], call 703-752-4487 or just stop by from 11-8 any day of the week. (He's running for Chairman in Fairfax)
