Alien Detained

October 13, 2008

Happy Columbus Day!

Sterlingfest was a tremendous success. Thank you to many of you who came to see more than 100 booths, firemen, parades, the Sterling Playmakers, Joe's Pizza next to Safeway, Chick Filet, and elected officials like Congressman Frank Wolf.

As usual, there were a lot of free giveaways and promotions from stores and companies and 300 patriotic rubber ducklings marched into 300 children's eager hands from my table.

>>>Illegal Alien Detained 12:30 AM This Morning In Sterling

On 10/13/08 at 0036 hrs. 150 block Enterprise St. Sterling. The Sheriff is reporting a "Fugitive from Justice/ICE Detainer": Deputies responded to a restaurant for a report of harassment. The subject, who was allegedly bothering customers, was identified as Nelson Zuniga-Bautista, 30, of Sterling, VA, was determined to have an active warrant from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Zuniga-Bautista is being held at the Adult Detention Center and held on a "detainer" and is to be turned over to federal authorities.

>>>> SUPPORT LEGISLATION TO BAN LARGE TRUCKS
>>> Ban Cars On Front Lawns Too.

Thank you for your emails to [email protected] to give your opinion at the upcoming Oct. 14 Public Hearing on your positions on banning large commercial vehicles parking in Sterling's residential areas and banning the parking of cars on front lawns.

That's Tuesday, Oct. 14th-- 6:30 PM Board of Supervisors Public Hearing - Board Room. Email messages are preferred but if you can, go to the public hearing to testify and give your opinion.

>>>ELECTION DAY COMING

Besides all the candidates on the ballot don't forget you have the opportunity to increase your taxes by voting "yes" for the Meals Tax. Happy Leesburg Big Spenders are rooting for you to add $400 to $500 to your annual McDonalds and Chic Filet take out bills. The tax -- if passed by voters-- will be 4 per cent ADDED to your sales tax on each meal.

I was the one "no" vote. 8 supers voted "yes". I hope I am not alone here. I would rather the Leesburg Establishment and 8 other Supervisors would vote to take away the tax exemptions for Howard Hughes Institute ($6 million), new hybrid car purchases ($3 million) and expensive executive lear jets ($16 million). Or sell half of the vacant unused and unprogramed COUNTY land that has not been used or has any plan for use for the last ten years. That's $10 million in revenue.

So will you vote "no" on the meals tax or "yes" on the meals tax increase?

>>>>Assemble your own Rain Barrel in October

The Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District will be presenting a Sterling Park workshop where homeowners can learn more about the benefits of rain barrels and make one to take home.

A workshop will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Heritage Farm Museum in Sterling Park.

Participants are reminded to dress appropriately as they will be constructing their own barrel. There will be a $50 charge per barrel, and pre-registration is required. Due to limited supply and availability, there will be a two-barrel-per-household limit.

This effort could save you money on your utility bill for water. ( I know this is not for most people).

>>>>Republican Signs Stolen Last Night

Deputies are writing down reports of Republican Signs for all our candidates being stolen Sunday night. Please replace your signs by going to see Melinda. The Sterling Republican HQ is open. Some liberals seek to silence the two party system by cutting down other citizens voices.

>>> SECURE YOUR SIGNS

Remember to place the sign near your front window or in view of your front door. Have a direct line of sight at ALL times in order to discourage theft. Keep the signs center and not at the end of your property. The charge would be trespass and vandalism. When night falls, re-claim your sign or keep a light on it.
