>>>Sobriety Checkpoint Tonight

Dear Sterling American,

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, July 11, 2008 in Eastern Loudoun County.

The sobriety checkpoint will be held from 10 PM to 3 AM. "Our ultimate goal is to ensure the roads are safe for all motorists by achieving voluntary compliance with the drinking and driving laws, said Loudoun County Sheriff Steve Simpson. "If you drink and drive, we're going to catch you," Simpson warned.

The Sheriff's Office currently conducts one checkpoint per month throughout the year and holds additional checkpoints during the holidays. The Sheriff's Office designed the checkpoints to raise public awareness and to discourage impaired driving.

DOZENS of houses that had overgrown grass have been cut in the past few days. If you have a house in your neighborhood with a problem keep an eye out for the crews. Thank you.

As announced here frequently, there is a 6:15 p.m. July 22 meeting of the Board of Supervisors at Park View High School.

Staff will report on legislative, administrative and regulatory recommendations (some of which are being voted on by the board this Tuesday and by a Committee on Wendesday) , then board members will have comments or questions and then the public (THAT'S YOU) will comment. Chairman York is ending the public comment period of 9 p.m. but I will stay as long as people want to talk or have questions for me in the meeting room. Thank you.

For those of you who would want to comment on the effort to clean up Sterling and want a full five minutes with no limit of the number of speakers, please go to the Board of superversors public input session at 6:30 p.m. on Monday July 14. The board sits in Leesburg for that purpose twice a month prior to a regular business meeting. Of course, you can write by email and all 9 supervisors will get your comment.

The board is considering a bill to budget grass cutting policies on Tuesday, allowing online reporting of zoning and overcrowding violations "provided staff can verify by phone that the complaintant is legitimate" (SIC) AND on Wednesday will consider legislation to ban rv and other recreational vehichicle trailers in the residential areas.
