Update Road closings

September 24, 2003

This is just in this morning on road closings as of 8:00 a.m.

Loudoun County, Virginia- Nine roads remain closed this morning in Loudoun including James Monroe Highway south (Route 15) between Leesburg and Route 50. The bridge along Route 15 at Goose Creek sustained water damage during the flooding and the roadway is missing large chunks of asphalt. Officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are currently on the scene and are clearing debris from the area. Those who wish to travel south of Leesburg on Route 15 will be redirected east onto Route 7, then right onto Belmont Ridge Road (Route 659) south. Drivers will continue on Route 659 to John Mosby Highway (Route 50) where they will take Route 50 west to Route 15. At this point commuters will be able to once again continue traveling south on Route 15. Those traveling north on Route 15 from Prince William County will take the same detour in the opposite direction. As of 8 AM a number of secondary roadways are closed and may remain closed into the late morning hours. Those roads include: Cochran Mill Road (Rt. 653), Tranquility Road (Rt. 782), Crenshaw Road (Route 624) at Armistead Drive, Newland Mill Road (Route 790) from Unison Road (Route 630) to St. Louis Road (Route 611), Furr Road (Rt. 736) and Poor House Road (Route 736), Hibbs Bridge at Beaverdam Creek, and Route 15 between Virt's Corner/Evergreen Mill Road and Gilbert's Corner. Public Safety Officials remind drivers that if you find yourself driving in potential flash flood conditions, do not drive through standing water as the water may be much deeper than you think causing your car to stall or even get stuck in hidden debris.
