>>>DELGAUDIO IN THE NEWS

I have reported to you on many issues and initiatives, small and large.

And many of you have responded. The strongest response has been my work=20
on "287 (G)" which would empower some deputies to process illegal alien=20
criminals, in custody already, for deportation.

To tell the supervisors to allow Loudoun Deputies to assist federal=20
authorities with deporting criminal aliens-- already in custody-- please =

write the board at [email protected]

There have been other reports to you: on tax free weekends, on the=20
shootings, on celebrations and Sterlingfest (rained out but still=20
carried out in limited fashion) and asking Washington Gas to reimburse=20
the county.

AFTER I report to you, there are sometimes newspaper reports. These last =

few weeks there have been many news reports. Thank you for the help you=20
have given me in obtaining such assistance for our community's needs and =

goals. Some of you have written letters to me and to the papers. Thank yo=
u.

>>>NEXT WEEKS' NEWS TODAY

I am mailing 10,000 postcards in Sterling to constituents asking them to =

vote for the Marriage Amendment on the ballot. And I am distributing=20
half a ton (1,000 pounds) of chocolate "hugs and kisses for the family"=20
to promote the Marriage Amendment passing. You may have seen me at=20
Sterlingfest, yard sales and football games handing them out.

Loudoun County Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R=ADSterling) plans to discus=

287(g) program, which trains local police and sheriff's departments to=20

immigrants who are committing crimes are repeat offenders, he=20
(Delgaudio) said. Based on that, Delgaudio said, "There's no way this=20
can't save us money."

(Delgaudio) also said it is a matter of piece of mind. With the jails=20
full from reckless driving accidents, manslaughter, sexual assaults,=20
felonies, misdemeanors, robberies, vandalism and all sorts of petty=20
crime, rather than releasing these illegal immigrants back to Ashburn=20
and Sterling, he said it would be nicer to know that a certain=20
percentage of these criminals could be sent to another country.

>>> LOUDOUN INDEPENDENT EDITORIAL LAMBASTS YORK
Editorial: Dear Colleague

We note with interest the report that Board of Supervisors Chairman=20
Scott York used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain information=20
about the County Animal Shelter from two other members of the board.

That York used the FOIA to demand information from Supervisor Eugene=20
Delgaudio is not that surprising. It is no secret that York and=20
Delgaudio are not close friends. Delgaudio is one of those people whose=20
ideas or actions are sometimes termed "bull crap" by the Chairman. They=20
seldom agree, and whether Delgaudio attempts to make one of his=20
often-terrible jokes or offers a serious comment, York often sees little =

humor or sense. Likewise, Delgaudio cannot hide his disdain for=20
York.(for rest of editorial)

>>>>Sheriff's role in immigration sought
Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) said this week he wants Loudoun =

County Sheriff's Deputies empowered to enforce some federal immigration=20
laws.

Delgaudio has proposed that Sheriff Steve Simpson send some members of=20

Loudoun Independent Newspaper Reports
>>>Chairman uses FOIA on Delgaudio and Clem
Chairman Scott K. York (I-At Large) recently angered two members of the=20
Board of Supervisors when he took the unusual step of invoking=20
Virginia's Freedom of Information Act to obtain documents from them.

York said he used the Act to obtain from Jim Clem (R-Leesburg) and=20
Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) documents and correspondence concerning an =

ongoing dispute at the county Animal Shelter.

Clem and Delgaudio said they were angered that York had sent them=20
letters requesting the information under FOIA provisions, rather than=20
asking them for the documents in person. At last week's Board of=20
Supervisors meeting Delgaudio called the request "stupid." (for the=20

>>>Panel Advances Transfer Shelter To Sheriff's Office
Delgaudio said York's concerns are "contrived."

"We are talking about a volunteer talking to other volunteers in a legal =

fashion," Delgaudio said. "I have informal weekly meetings. Does that=20
make it illegal? Do you automatically assume they are illegal?"

On a broader note, York said he is concerned about the push to transfer=20
animal control officers-and possibly the entire Animal Care and Control=20
Department-to the sheriff's office.

(EUGENE NOTE: Scott York opposes the privatization or the transfer of=20
the animal shelter or officers to the sheriff's department. York went=20
ballistic when I nominated a devoted citizen volunteer, Paul Dodaro, who =

was ready to work diligently to replace another Sterling citizen=20
volunteer, Melinda Meador. Right now the shelter is a "kill shelter"=20
where animals are put to death. Many privatized shelters do not=20
euthanize animals. Right now, 10 per cent of dogs are registered, other=20
counties in USA have 80 per cent registration with private shelters!

The only hope for pet owners and dogs and cats is a vigilant citizens=20
oversight and York is upset and screaming about this volunteer operation =

having too much say in the affairs of the county. ) (for Delgaudio=20
legislation on Private Shelters go to)
