Discovery Park Pleads for Help

October 17, 2006

I was there yesterday and so were volunteers.

But rain fell all day today and drove away volunteers from the SULLY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PLAYGROUND PROJECT.

I just got back from a all day 12 hour board meeting and read this pleading message asking for help from the Discovery Park Committee.

>>> MESSAGE FROM SITE OF DISCOVERY PARK

"""Hello all,
This is our second day building Discovery Park. After an exciting first day, we continue to move forward. Unfortunately, the rain has kept many people away today. If we don't get enough people building, we will have to start cutting back on what we can accomplish. After a years worth of hard work, we do not want to disappoint the children.

If you haven't signed up, no need, just come out. If you signed up to come at 5:00 but can come early, PLEASE DO.

We really need your help TODAY. Please come out to help. Dress for the weather, but we need you TODAY. Please tell your friends, neighbors, family, and the anyone you pass on the street, the people in line at the grocery store, at the bank, at the gas station... EVERYONE!

Discovery Park is something for the whole community. We will be building rain or shine. Mother Nature cannot stop us. Together we can make it happen, but we need your help. Please come out TODAY.

We serve lunch at 12, dinner at 5. We have free childcare with lots of activities for the children. We will be out there until late this evening."""

>>> GO THERE IF YOU CAN

You can sign up when you go there. There's plenty of tents, work and food. 100s are there, but they really need more help.

Members of the news media are coming so wear your company or school logo if you wish.

>>> BUILDING OCT. 18, 19, 20, 21, 22

I got a note from someone asking when the building is taking place. If fewer volunteers show, it will be a smaller playground than planned originally. If more volunteers it can be as big as planned. The building is taking place Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
