St. Pat, Santa and Party

March 16, 2003

It is more than a national holiday, it is an international celebration for Irish and non-Irish to thank a great man, Saint Patrick, for driving out the serpents in Ireland. We need Saint Patrick in Leesburg, the seat of county government.

This is an alert. Christmas is past. But we need Santa to visit Loudoun County again in the off season. Santa might as well move to Sterling while we are at it.

The Planning Commission of Loudoun County is again taking up the dreaded lighting ordinances that were the focus of national ridicule and attack last Summer 2002.

These ordinances regulate private residential lights in Sterling homes, put a curfew on when lights can actually be lit, regulate the amount of light and outlaw certain kinds of bulbs and light fixtures (both indoor and outdoor).

Be ready to see or review the proposed new laws. It is amazing. Sterling needs new regulations for large interstate trucks and commercial vans left in our residential areas. But the Planning Commission is putting an effort into promoting DARK SKIES. Here we go again.
