No "Senator" Staton

February 1, 2006

Mick Staton lost the special election for State Senator yesterday to
Mark Herring who will be sworn in Thursday in Richmond. Thank you all
who voted in the special election yesterday for Staton.

In Loudoun, Herring got 10,090 votes to Republican Mick Staton's 6,585
votes.

I am proud of all of you and appreciate your voting. Sterling District
precincts were in the top ten precincts showing the most support for
Mick Staton with only 2 other precincts in the State Senate District
showing higher returns than our own top princinct.

Sterling District is a top Republican neighborhood even in a defeat.

Turnout was 14.4 percent among the 115,000 Loudoun voters.

Liberal Democrats have a lot to celebrate about. Congratulations. You
liberals won.

We, the Republicans who are upset at losing, need to look at the low
turnout and resolve to work to make sure there is a higher turnout with
a different response in the future.

It is Democrats who have raised taxes in Richmond and then spent a tax
surplus of 2.1 billion dollars. And they will do it again now that a 2nd
Democrat is Governor (Tim Kaine) and there are fewer tax cut Republicans
in the state house of Delegates and state Senate.

High turnout benefits conservatives in Sterling and we have to work
harder at high turnout next time!

>>> Fairfax legend, Jack Herrity, dies

Some people think I modeled my political style after Jack Herrity.
Herrity is the former Chairman of the board of supervisors in Fairfax.
He started out as a lone Republican and then led a Republican takeover
of the Fairfax board. I was honored by a friendship with Mr. Herrity
going back to 1986. The Times papers put an obit together

>>> Maurice Painter, 'Santa' of Juniper Street, dies

Maurice Painter Sr., for two decades the resident Santa Claus of East
Juniper Street in Sterling, died Jan. 19, in Ocoee, Fla. He was 72.

At one point Painter had 15,000 lights on his lawn. He and Charlie Meyer
had a contest over the displays and they shared "best" in the
neighborhood one year. Read more at

>>> JEWELRY DONATIONS BEING REQUESTED BY GSA

The Good Shepherd Alliance (GSA) is Loudoun County's oldest (since 1983)
and largest homeless shelter for men, women and children. The Thrift
Store in Sterling is seeking your donations of jewelry. They are asking
donors to sort through their old jewelry and donate anything they don't
wear anymore. The Valentines Day holiday is quickly approaching and the
GSA is planning to celebrate with several thrift store showcases full of
jewelry for our customers to select from and purchase. Profits from the
Thrift Store go directly towards operation of the Family Shelter in
Lucketts, Men's Shelter in Ashburn, Day Outreach/Night Winter Center in
Leesburg and the future Transitional House for Women in Purcellville.

>>>Uncle Sam Confirmed! VICTORY OVER SENATOR KENNEDY.

Read my victory statement on the confirmation of Judge Sam Alito. I led
a campaign for a conservative judge who would put the American Civil
Liberties Union out of business and now we have got one more "real"
Judge on the Supreme Court.
