>>>SURPRISE: PRESIDENT BUSH VISITS STERLING

Last Thursday, the President visited Sterling. As reported in Sunday's
Post, the White House decided to come to Sterling on short notice and
visit JKJ Moving. I got the first call from the White House on Tuesday
morning after my speech thanking all of Sterling for showing "The
Republicans are back" with Mick Staton's win. I thought the President
was responding to this Staton victory (ha ha) The seating was extremely
limited and only 500 people were invited-- mostly by the company
organizing it and the local Chamber of Commerce.

>>> Delegate Tom Rust Reports

Delegate Rust wrote me and told me that the bill to severely restrict
ballfield use in Virginia probably has little chance of passing. He is
not supporting it either.

The bill HB1368, introduced by Del. Bob Hull, and entitled the "Home
Serenity and Tranquility Act," would prohibit the use of athletic
fields before 8 am or after six p.m. and restrict use on Sundays as
well. It is bottled up in a Committee.

>>> Pat McSweeney Says "Government Causes Sprawl"

Former GOP Chairman Mc Sweeney says "Contrary to popular wisdom, the
persistence of congestion is not caused by excesses of the market. The
major culprit is unwise government policy. (Gov.) Kaine proposes more
government when the solution is surely just the opposite."

>>> SENATOR KEN CUCCINELLI REPORTS
>>> POISSON AND CAPUTO VOTE FOR GAY MARRIAGE

Senator Cuccinelli told me "the House of Delegates, in a lopsided 73-22
vote, (passed) the Constitutional Amendment protecting traditional
marriage in Virginia... Once approved by the Senate, this measure will
go to the voters for their approval in November. But in a stunning
display of what Virginia would be in for if the Dems got control of the
House back, all 5 new Democrat delegates from Northern Virginia voted
against traditional marriage. Freshman Delegates Bulova, Marsden,
Caputo, Poisson, and Englin joined fellow Northern Virginia Democrats
Amundson, Moran, Plum, Sickles, Eisenberg and Ebbin in voting "No" on
protecting marriage between a man and a woman. This means that fully ½
of the "No" votes came out of Northern Virginia." (Unquote).
