Sterling: Miracle On Route 7

November 2, 2005

The Route 28-Sterling Blvd. Interchange ceremony was great.

Thank you to those who came. We enjoyed coffee and then Delegate Dick
Black, and Supervisors Mick Staton, Bruce Tulloch and I, along with some
others, shoveled some dirt.

>>>Fundraising Kick-off for Sully Elementary School

This Thursday Nov. 3rd at 7 P.M. will be the Sully Science Park &
Playground Kickoff meeting. The organizers will explain what this is,
where we have come and where we are going. And how they are going to
get there.

A normal playground could cost $25,000 to $50,000 and is normally raised
by the parents over a few years of cooperative effort.

The Sully project is an ambitious project with a goal of raising $90,000
for a science oriented theme.

Organizers said "We are planning on this not only to be an area for
physical recreation but also to demonstrate visually and with hands on
experience several science, geography, history and musical concepts that
will ehance learning the various SOL topics taught today."

No commitment is implied by showing up. Sully Elementary School is
located next to the Sterling Water Tank 300 Circle Drive right off Holly
Avenue in Sterling Park. It is 3 blocks east of Sterling Boulevard.

CONGRESSMAN WOLF DISCOVERS STATE BUREAUCRATS DID NOT FOLLOW THROUGH

Looks like the same situation as with Route 28. Republican elected
official solves a problem but Democrat elected official messes it all
up. Or pleads ignorance.

WOLF TROUBLED BY DELAY IN IMPLEMENTING NEW TECHNOLOGY ON ROUTE 7 TO
IMPROVE TRAFFIC FLOW FROM LEESBURG TO TYSONS CORNER

Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10th) today released the following letter to
Virginia's secretary of transportation expressing his concern over
delays in the implementation of new technology on Route 7 that would
synchronize traffic signals in real time. Rep. Wolf went on radio and TV
News to say, IN PART, the following today:

"The progress report I recently received on the effort to synchronize in
real time the traffic lights on Route 7 from Leesburg to Tysons Corner
is greatly disappointing. I was exasperated to learn that the
state-of-the-art system for which I secured federal funding is yet to be
completely operational in the corridor..."---(one million dollars in tax
dollars allocated and spent)

"I have worked in good faith with VDOT to improve traffic flow on Route
7. VDOT, it appears, is almost a year behind in fully implementing this
new system to improve traffic flow in this important commuter corridor",
said Rep. Wolf.

Miracle on Route 7
>>>TONIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE LIGHTS SEEMED SYNCHRONIZED.

It seems Rep. Wolf's letter and news interviews today had a miraculous
affect on the traffic lights. Coming in from Tysons Corner tonight all
the lights seemed synchronized and the lights stayed green from the
middle of Tysons Corner all the way to Sterling, Va. on route 7. This
has never happened before today. This was about 7:30 p.m. in moderate
traffic and the entire collection of 200 cars drove for miles without
stopping. The lights stayed green the entire time. I had to stop in
Sterling for home, but the rest of traffic continued towards Leesburg.

It should have happened a year ago.
