Snowing Stopped. Schools Closed Friday. TEEN JOB FAIR SATURDAY IS ON

March 5, 2015

SNOW?

The storm has left the area. Just wind chill and low temps coming our way.

Tomorrow 26 degrees and still plowing going on all night tonight and tomorrow too.

THIS JUST IN: Loudoun County Schools will be closed.

There was a barn fire near Waterford during this storm and it was a big headache. The sherrif's office is busy with 9 reports the last hour of individuals getting in wrecks.

Please stay home for now and shovel and salt.

I am getting regular updates from the County Emergency Operations Center

The National Weather Service in Sterling says tonight there will be a low of 5 degrees with wind
chill -3 degrees. Friday about 9 degrees.

HEAT WAVE SATURDAY

SATURDAY Partly sunny with a high near 40-- GREAT for the teen job fair.

WHEN DID MY DAY START?

At five a.m. I got this message from Loudoun County:

"Based on the weather forecast from the National Weather Service, as well as other weather media outlets, Loudoun County Government will be in Closed status today, March 5, 2015."

Even Chic Fil-A and McDonalds was closed earlier today! (I had a meeting at Juke Box Diner, it was open)

Joe's Pizza is open to 8:30 p.m. so call them 703 444-9500 if you are not going to listen to reason and stay home.

I had to shovel 4 times my walk and my neighbors walk.

Please look out for yourself and your neighbor.

Let me know if you need help. Its a whole lot of shoveling so keep that shovel
handy and in a place where you can find it.

Conditions are still bad generally as the snow continues to fall.

VDOT reports:

ALL HANDS ON DECK FOR TODAY'S MAJOR STORM

N. Va. drivers asked to prepare for several days of difficult road conditions, frigid temps.

"Road Conditions remain treacherous" says VDOT just a minute ago.

Previously VDOT said:

Road crews in Sterling and Loudoun are working and several days of frigid temperatures that will make clearing roads a challenge. By midnight (this AM), more than 3,800 trucks will be staged along interstates, major roads and neighborhood streets.

"We're asking drivers to prepare now for a long couple of days," said Branco Vlacich, VDOT's district maintenance engineer for northern Virginia.

What motorists and residents should know:

Road conditions will be treacherous during the storm. Drivers should stay off roads throughout the day tomorrow to provide crews as much room as possible to plow and treat roads.

Crews will plow and treat interstates, major roads and neighborhoods in northern Virginia concurrently.

Residents are asked to park in driveways or on the odd-numbered side of the street to allow plows room to pass.

Chemicals are not used in subdivisions, but crews sand hills, curves and intersections to provide traction. For most storms, one snowplow pass, about eight to ten feet wide, is made.

Repeated refreeze and black ice are likely through the weekend, with single-digit lows overnight and below-freezing pavement temperatures forecasted to persist for the next several days.
